UK inflation hits 30-year high

The National Bureau of Statistics of Great Britain reported on the acceleration of inflation in the country. As a result of February, it rose by 0.7 percentage points compared to the January level of the indicator and amounted to 6.2% year on year. Such a high growth rate in consumer prices has not been observed in the UK over the past 30 years. On a monthly basis, February inflation was 0.8%. At the same time, prices decreased by 0.1% compared to December in January. Both indicators exceeded the forecast of the polled analysts. They expected that in relation to the prices of a year ago, inflation in February will be 5.9%, and in relation to the previous month – 0.6%. Inflation, which takes into account the cost of the British to maintain their homes, also accelerated last month. It amounted to 5.5% against 4.9% a month earlier on an annual basis. Compared to January, prices increased by 0.7%. Accelerated inflation is observed in many countries of the world against the backdrop of rising energy prices and problems in the supply chain.
